Next Chapter, Anywhere
Field Notes on Culture, Travel, and Starting Again.
A podcast hosted by former U.S. diplomat Cynthia L. Plath, founder of Sojourn & Soirée, and Antonina Berube, founder of EMBODY By Antonina.
I spent twenty years in the U.S. Foreign Service. My co-host, Antonina “Nina” Berube, spent hers teaching math. Neither of us planned what came next, and nobody handed either of us the next set of orders.
This show is about midlife reinvention — the part where you have done one thing well for twenty or thirty years and you are no longer sure you want to do it for twenty more. Nina and I talk about career identity, and what happens when you lose the title that used to answer “what do you do?” for you. We talk about career change, starting over after a long career, what travel actually teaches you, and the unglamorous middle part that nobody posts.
It is for anyone looking at a second act — leaving government, a classroom, a hospital, a law firm, a company, or just the version of your life that stopped fitting. It is never too late to change. We say that a lot, and we are both still proving it.
We are not career coaches and we do not have a framework. We are two people doing it in real time, saying out loud what it actually feels like. New episodes every other Tuesday.
Start with the Field Guide
The show is the conversation. The Field Guide is what I wrote down during my first year after the Foreign Service — the five stages after you leave, and the Tuesday night with nowhere to be. It is free, it comes by email, and Field Notes follows most Mondays.
We Also Travel Together
Next Chapter, Anywhere runs small-group trips — ten guests or fewer, one place at a time.
Cortona in 2027, and the waitlist hears first.
